Here are the answers to the frequently asked questions about the Voice of the City competition:

Q. What ages are permitted to compete?
A. Singers from ages 8 years to 21 years are invited to audition.

Q. Will young singers be competing against older singers?
A. For the overall winner, yes, but there will be age group winners.

Q. What type of singer can enter?
A. Any style. Styles can include classical, pop, musical theatre, gospel, jazz, country etc. 

Q. Who will sing for Nancy Carson?
A.The top finalists will be chosen to sing for Nancy Carson and the final judges,
   Saturday, April 24th, 2010.

Q. Who is Nancy Carson?
A. Nancy Carson is a children's agent who has worked in the industry for more than twenty-five years and has guided the careers of such celebrities as Britney Spears, Matt Damon, Mischa Barton, and young Cynthia Nixon. Visit www.carsonadler.com for more information.

Q. Are there any other prizes for the winners?
A. Yes, the top winner will win $1000 and cash prizes will be given to the runner-up winners.

Q. Who are the preliminary judges?
A. Prominent and knowledgeable professionals from the Columbus area.

Q. When and where are the auditions?
A. Auditions are:
  • Friday, February 5th
  • Saturday, February 6th
  • Sunday, February 7th 
Auditions are held in the rehearsal rooms of the Columbus Children's Choir, 760 E. Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43205.

Q. How will I know when my audition is?
A. When you mail in your registration a committee member will contact you by e-mail with a date and time.

Q. Do I need to have an accompanist?
A. No, you may bring your own if you want to. A piano will be available, but you can also use tapes or CDs.

Q. May I sing a cappella?
A. Yes, if you choose.

Q. How long may I sing?
A. Each person who auditions gets two minutes to sing. They will be cut off if it is longer.

Q. What should I wear?
A. Anything that makes you feel comfortable and at ease. Be sure to check out our audition tips!

Q. Is there a cost?
A. Yes, there is a $25 registration fee.

Q. Where does the entry fee go?
A. The cost of facility rentals, bookkeeping, mailings and this is a fundraiser for the Columbus Children’s Choir.

Q. How do I enter?
A. Print out the audition form and mail the form, check and photo to the given address.

Q. Why do I need a photo and what kind?
A. Any photo, a snapshot, school picture, whatever looks like you so that the judges can remember you.

Q. When are the finals?
A. Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Q. Where are the finals?
A. The Davis Performing Arts Center, 549 Franklin Avenue, Columbus OH at 7:00 pm
                                                                       
Q. Is the final event open to the public?
A. Yes, tickets are $15 each. Order your tickets today!

Q. What if I am a finalist?
A. All finalists must provide music for piano accompaniment. We will have an accompanist at the finals or you may bring your own. No one may sing with a tape, CD or a cappella. There will be a rehearsal before the finals. Your finals song can be different from your audition song, but must not be longer than two minutes. The decisions of the judges are final.
